Where the Rainforest Meets the Sea

Overview

Located on the southeastern coast of Great Nicobar Island, Galathea National Park is one of the most pristine and biodiverse protected areas of the Andaman & Nicobar Islands. Covering an area of about 110 sq. km, it forms a part of the Great Nicobar Biosphere Reserve, along with Campbell Bay National Park.

The park is known for its dense tropical evergreen forests, mangroves, and rich marine ecosystems, making it a haven for researchers, conservationists, and eco-travelers.

  • Unique Fauna: Home to the Nicobar megapode, saltwater crocodiles, monitor lizards, giant leatherback turtles, and the rare Nicobar macaque.

  • From Port Blair to Great Nicobar Island:By Ship: Govt. ships (MV Campbell Bay, MV Nicobar, MV Nancowry) operate 2–3 times a month, taking 4–5 days.
  • By Air/Heli: Limited helicopter service (Pawan Hans) from Port Blair to Campbell Bay.
